This study indicates there is a disparity of female head team physicians (HTP) in the NCAA, with 9 (12.9%), 8 (12.5%), and 8 (16.3%) HTPs being women in Division I, Division II, and Division III, respectively. Orthopaedic Surgery and Family Medicine were the most prominent specialties for residency, yet 7.5% of orthopaedic surgery HTPs were female. Research productivity was highest in DI, and their female HTPs had the highest H-index of all female HTPs. These findings support the need for improved gender diversity of HTPs in the NCAA, encouraging further research on the correlation between female physician profiles and their entry into HTP positions.
