Trends in Prescribed Opioids Among Patients with Ankle Injuries

Description

Ankle injuries remain the second most common MSK treated injury in emergency departments.  Despite the recommendation by governing bodies against the use of opioids, patients continue to be prescribed these narcotics for ankle injuries.  This study finds that severity of ankle injury, increasing age, and regional preferences are risk factors associated with higher opioid prescribing practices.
