Meniscal repair procedures have been increasing in popularity. There have been limited evidence regarding
failure rates in the middle-aged to older population.
The aim of the study was to evaluate failure rates for patients above 45 years of age and assess symptoms with KOOS.
Retrospective, 137 patients were identified from 2015-2021. Failure rate in this age group was 38.7%. The risk was higher for the medial and longitudinal tears. There were significant differences between failed and
non-failed meniscal repairs regarding patient acceptable symptom state (PASS) for all subscales.
There is a high failure rate for meniscal repair in the middle-aged population. The risk is higher for medial
bucket-handle and longitudinal tears. Failed fixation also affect the patient satisfaction after
repair.
