Collateral Ligament Strain and Lower Limb Alignment

Description

The strain within the native LCL and sMCL was linearly associated with coronal lower limb alignment. Strain levels associated with microdamages to the ligaments of more than 4% were observed at 4° of varus and 5° of valgus malalignment, respectively. When considering reconstruction of the posterolateral/posteromedial corner, an additional correction of the mechanical axis should be considered in cases of lateral and medial instability accompanied by a varus/valgus malalignment exceeding 4 – 5° to protect the graft.
